Spend less by shrinking the load
The budget lever you control is what travels. A Guildford house move costs more when the loft, the garage and three years of “maybe” boxes are included at the last minute. Sort them before you ask for a quote. Surrey’s recycling centres, including Slyfield, have opening days and vehicle rules. Use them, or a charity shop, before the van is booked.
Packing yourself, properly, also shortens the day. Leave the fragile kitchen to a packing service only if that trade is worth it to you. Do not half-pack and then ask the crew to finish at the door.
Be flexible, and be accurate
Fridays and month ends are the dates everyone wants. A mid-week date is easier to schedule. An accurate list is cheaper than a hopeful one, because a van that is too small becomes two journeys.
Town-centre parking that has not been arranged can waste an hour you are paying for. If the street needs a suspension, start with Surrey County Council early. That admin is dull and it protects the quote.
Get the number in writing
We will not invent a “cheap day” figure on this page. Two homes with the same bedroom count can be different jobs if one is a flat off the High Street and the other is a house in Farncombe with a drive. Get a free quote with photos of the stairs and a note of what you have already packed.
Insurance is provided. Ask what it covers so you are not buying a duplicate you do not understand, and not assuming cover you never checked.
