Two councils, and a county
Guildford town, Merrow, Burpham, Onslow Village, Park Barn, Stoughton, Shalford, Send, Ripley, Compton, Normandy, Worplesdon and East Horsley are in Guildford borough. Godalming, Farncombe, Cranleigh and Wonersh are in Waverley. If you are moving to Woking, that is Woking Borough Council. Surrey County Council still covers schools and the recycling centres wherever you land.
Register council tax with the right borough, and look up the bin week for the street. Do not copy a friend’s collection day from the other side of town.
Health, post and schools
The main hospital is the Royal Surrey on Egerton Road. Cranleigh has a village hospital for some outpatient clinics, run by the same Trust. Find a GP with the new postcode on the NHS site, and redirect post before you hand keys back.
School places go through Surrey’s admissions pages, not through the borough. If you are moving with a school-age child, read the deadlines. They are not the same as your completion date.
Getting around
Guildford station, on Station Approach, is the main rail interchange. London Road station suits the Burpham and Merrow side. Shalford, Chilworth, Farncombe, Godalming and Horsley have their own stops. Cranleigh does not. Parking in the centre is the detail that catches new residents: on-street rules are Surrey’s, and the borough car parks are a separate system.
The move itself
Guildford removals is the home of our local service if you want a crew from 6 Woodbridge Rd. Read the areas we cover and the page for the neighbourhood you have chosen, because a town-centre flat and a house in Merrow are not the same job. Get a free quote once you have both addresses.
