Shalford is the village immediately south of Guildford, on the road towards Bramley and Godalming, with the river and the common close by. Houses are a mix of older cottages near the centre and later family homes set back from the A281. A removal van is usually fine on the wider roads and awkward on the lanes where cars already park both sides. The railway station is in the village, which is useful, but it is not a reason to block Station Road on moving day. Our base at 6 Woodbridge Rd, Guildford GU1 1EE is about three miles away. The run is short, through or around the town, and it is still a full house move when the property has a loft, a garage and a narrow hall. Tell us if you are in Shalford itself or in the parish villages of Chilworth or Peasmarsh, because the parish covers all three and the access is not the same. House moves are the bulk of the work. Shalford Mill, an eighteenth-century watermill looked after by the National Trust, is in the village and was closed for conservation works when we checked, so do not send visitors there without reading the Trust notice.
