Ask what the quote includes
Before you book, ask whether the price covers both addresses, the stairs, beds taken apart, and packing or not. A figure with no description is hard to compare with another figure. Ask for it in writing, and ask how long that quote stays open while a chain moves.
Ask who is on the crew, and whether a third-floor flat in Guildford is priced as a flat or as if it had a drive. Those are different jobs.
Ask about access, not only the postcode
The questions that matter in this town are local. Can the van stop on your road? Is there a permit or a suspension to arrange with Surrey County Council? Is the flat above a shop on the High Street, or a house on Woodbridge Road? Does the new place have a lift that must be booked?
If you are moving to Godalming or Cranleigh, ask whether the quote has noticed that the council changes at the borough boundary. The drive is short. The paperwork is not the same.
Ask what happens when the day shifts
Keys are late more often than people admit. Ask what you should do if the solicitor calls at noon. Ask how you will reach someone if you are open 24 hours and the problem starts in the evening. A phone number that only works in office hours is a poor fit for a completion day.
Ask what you should pack yourself, and what must stay with you: passports, medicines, the car seats, the pet.
Ask about insurance in plain words
Insurance is provided. Ask what that covers, what you should declare, and what you are expected to pack yourself. Do not fill the gap with a number you saw on another firm’s website.
If you want a local firm to put those answers in a quote, start with Guildford removals. Take the answers seriously whichever name is on the estimate.
