The centre, if you want to walk
Guildford town centre is flats, cottages and offices on a hill. You can walk to the station and the High Street. You will also plan every arrival by car or van, because the streets are tight and the cobbles slope. It suits people who use the town daily and do not need a drive.
East and north-east
Merrow is family housing towards the downs, with a GP surgery in the area and a short drive to London Road station. Burpham sits the other side of the London Road, near George Abbot School and the A3. Both are Guildford borough. Both are easier for a van than the High Street, with the usual warning about school-run roads.
Send and Ripley are villages further out, still in the borough, with GU23 postcodes and no station in the village itself.
West, near the hospital
Onslow Village is mostly houses. Park Barn mixes houses and flats beside the Royal Surrey and the university. If you work at either, the commute is short and the clinic traffic is part of life. Stoughton is north of our Woodbridge Road base, close to the Slyfield tip and the A3.
South, and a different council
Shalford and Chilworth are still Guildford borough, just south of town, with small stations. Godalming, Farncombe, Wonersh and Cranleigh are Waverley. The drive can be short. The council tax bill comes from a different office.
