The day before
Finish the packing you said you would finish. Defrost the fridge. Walk the path from the door to where the van will stand. In Stoughton or Shalford that path may be a drive. In the town centre it may be a side street and a flight of stairs. Photograph anything you are worried about and send it before the morning, not as the crew arrives.
Charge your phone. Put both sets of keys, medicines and the kettle box where you can see them.
The morning
Eat something before the first box moves. Open the door you agreed, not a side gate nobody mentioned. Introduce one person as the decision-maker so the crew is not taking instructions from three people.
If you are coming from a chain, keep the solicitor’s number written down. House removals can be retimed more easily than they can be parked for an unknown hour on a yellow line.
Parking is the Guildford problem
Surrey County Council enforces on-street parking. Guildford Borough Council runs the off-street car parks. If your street needs a suspension, that is a Surrey process and it is not instant. A cricket day at Woodbridge Road or a match-day crowd near the ground is a reason to mention the date when you book, because our base is on that road and the traffic is real.
The first hour in the new place
Unload beds and the essentials before the spare-room boxes. Test that you can lock the door. Read the meters. Then let the crew finish. A moving day that feels calm is usually one where the awkward facts were shared early: the stair, the bay, the late keys, the piano.
